The first one is by a third grader and his piece is 18X24 inches and is from his interpretations of Picasso's blue period. The guitar from his knowledge of why Picasso painted the guitarist.
The second one is by a second grader and it is his way of studying abstractions. His is an abstracted Turkey Dinner. It is also 18X24 inches.

The third on is by a 5th grader and it is a study in Black and White, done after studying Guernica, and it is an Abstraction of an Apple. How would Picasso thought about an apple from the inside out. It is 18X48 inches. Done in tempera.

5TH GRADE TREE STUDIES

These painting were the review painting done the first time the students came to art this year. They were given the choice to do something that showed all the things that they could remember from Kindergarten and incorporate those things into a Tree Painting. These were two that I thought did a good job of overlapping perspectives and color usage.

The students can see their work and the comments you make. Please do comment

PROMISING PICASSO'S

This is two of my 6Th graders painting the class has been working on while we study the great painting "GUERNICA" by Picasso. We talked about abstraction and taking apart something and putting it back together a new way. At the beginning of the year we made pottery pots. For this painting they were to draw the parts or piece of clay that they used to construct one of their pots. looking at the pot from many angles they were to draw the pot as Picasso would. We then used black and white TEMPERA paint to create the many shades of gray to complete pieces like these. It was a fantastic project.

All these beautiful colors were created using only Prang watercolor, yellow, blue and red. Overlapping the colors with dots. The dots were applied using Q-tips. It is a time consuming projects but showing the students how color printing offset press work is done they get real anxious to see what they can produce. they really get into the different tints and tones created.

Pen and Ink watercolor. Templates were used in the drawing.

It is 9 different 6 inch squares done with variation on a single subject, TULIP, done in Pastoils and mounted in on a larger square black piece of paper.

Mariamanda & Alli's art work

These are the works of two of my students, One is from Oakdale and the other is one of my private students.

The Black and white scratch board piece is by Mariamanda and was the best one from my class of 7Th en 8Th grade students last year. Mariamanda actually did two pieces while some of the rest of the class never finished the first one.
The 2Nd piece is by Alli and it is a mono print encaustic piece titled "PIZZA MAN" each color is applied to a different piece of paper with wax crayons and the heat transferred on top of each other on this finished piece of paper.
Children love comments about their work and most of them are linked to this blog somehow or the other.
